A second attempt shouldn’t be difficult, I said to myself. I was wrong. My first lesson plan was already tough, but when I found out that we are to incorporate multimedia in our lesson plan, is said “ah oh, what should I teach what multimedia tools should I use?” It took me awhile but I decided I wanted to create a lesson plan on Photoshop. What made me choose this topic? Well, my content area is in Art and I thought it would be interesting to teach high school students this tool. When I was in high school, technology was not really incorporated in my art classes. Therefore, using this software and other media will be interesting to students because, one, with so many social networks online; we like to add pictures of ourselves and interest. Maybe a student wants to edit a picture and post their work or simply to make it look nice.
Second, it can be a stepping stone for students to gain interest in the subject area; this student may pursue a degree in Graphic artist.
Planning this lesson, I learned that multimedia tools are essential in creating a lesson plan because it gains students’ interest and promote understanding. For me, this is important because if you do not gain their interest, learning would not take place (Clark and Starr 1996). In addition, I learned that by using multimedia, you reach out to different learners, visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. Therefore, integrating media in your lesson will benefit a lot of students through different ways.
In my lesson plan, I decided to use several media, Photoshop software, video clips, internet, and power point. I thought that by incorporating all these media, it will gain interest and new skills. At first, at one point, I wanted students to make a video lapse of their drawing. Then, I realized that it is too much work for high school students and too advance. So, I decided to have the students save their work instead and upload the drawing in their webpage. Creating a webpage is one of the tools I learned in ED 451 and decided to incorporate that in my lesson plan.
Similar to my first reaction paper, the least I liked in creating this lesson plan is deciding what to teach and what tools to use. There were so many tools I can chose from and I really had to think about it to make the lesson plan work. However, I really enjoyed posting my lesson plan online using free website creator. There was a time a got addicted to it and now I have two webpage, one for my second lesson plan and one for personal use. I took the pleasure in adding videos, pictures, and customizing my page.
The best NETS*T for my lesson plan is number 2 in the 2008 NETS for teachers, Design and Develop Digital Age Learning Experiences and Assessments (NETS). “Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessment incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS•S. Teachers (NETS).”
My lesson plan consists of multimedia that facilitates learning. It involves using contemporary tools such as the internet, software, and educational videos. All these will maximize the learning experience of the students and acquire new skills that will benefit them in the future. Therefore, I chose standard number 2.
